There is nothing quite like the feeling of lifting a cup, and this weekend, our Blackheath Wanderers Vets team did exactly that!

On Saturday, 9th May, the boys made the journey down to The Crest Stadium at Winch's Field to face Herne Bay Football Club in the highly anticipated Queen Elizabeth Plate Final.

A Game of Two Halves

Going into the match, everyone knew it was going to be a tough encounter against a strong Herne Bay side. The first 45 minutes proved exactly that. Both teams battled hard for dominance, trading blows and heading into the half-time break deadlocked at 1-1.

It was clear that if the Wanderers were going to bring the trophy back to South East London, they needed to find another gear.

The Turning Point

Sometimes, half-time is about subtle tactical tweaks. Other times, it requires a slightly different approach.

According to the manager, the boys were treated to a classic bit of "hair dryer treatment" in the changing room at the break. Whatever was said, it worked absolute wonders.

The Vets came out firing in the second half, showing fantastic grit and quality to put the game to bed. They netted two more goals to secure a brilliant 3-1 victory at the final whistle.

Final Score: Blackheath Wanderers (BWFC) 3 - 1 Herne Bay FC

2026 Plate Champions

A massive congratulations to the manager and every single player in the squad. To go on the road, dig deep when the game was in the balance, and come away as the 2026 Queen Elizabeth Plate Champions is a fantastic achievement.

Thank you to everyone who made the trip down to Herne Bay to support the team. Let the celebrations commence! 👏🍻
